WELCOME
Welcome to the official internet website for the EMBARQ/SPRINT RETIREE BENEFITS LAWSUIT. This website is prepared by the attorneys who are representing the proposed class of retirees in the lawsuit challenging the July 2007 action by Embarq Corporation to terminate or reduce the medical and life insurance benefits provided to retirees (and their eligible beneficiaries) of Sprint Nextel Corporation and predecessor companies.
This website provides you with access to official documents and other information about the lawsuit and its progress.
On this website, you can obtain answers to frequently asked questions about the case, review and download important documents, and get updates on the current status of the case. The website also provides information on how to communicate with the legal team representing the retirees and provide information that may be useful in the case.
Please understand that this is a public website that can be viewed by anyone, including the lawyers for Embarq and Sprint. Therefore, the website will not provide non-public or confidential information. Also, visiting or using this website does not make you a client of any of the law firms that are part of the legal team representing the proposed class of retirees in the lawsuit.
If you would like to contact the legal team, click on the “Contact the Legal Team” button on the left side of this page and view that page of the website.
If you would like to help the legal team and publicize the lawsuit to other retirees, click on the “How You Can Help” button on the left side of this page and view that page of the website.
For an overview of what the case is about and whether you are included in the proposed class of people who will be covered by the lawsuit, click on the “Frequently Asked Questions” button on the left side of this page and review the information provided on that page of the website.
In lawsuits of this kind, the statement of the plaintiffs' claims is presented in a Complaint and the statement of the defendants' responses and defenses to the claims is presented in an Answer. If you would like to view, download or print the Amended Complaint or the Answer, click on the “Complaint and Answer” button on the left side of this page and view that page of the website.
At this early stage of the case, the Court has not yet made any ruling on the merits of the claims and defenses. However, on December 2, 2008 the Court issued a preliminary decision that denied most of the defendants' motion to dismiss certain claims and allowed the case to proceed. To review that decision and future court decisions in the case, click on the “Court Rulings” button on the left side of this page and view that page of the website.
NOTE: Many of the documents posted on this website are in the form of a “PDF” file. If you have not already installed on your computer the free computer program, Adobe Reader, that will enable you to open and read PDF files, you can download the program for free by clicking on the Adobe symbol and following the simple instructions on that website.
